Katniss is my HERO
CATCHING FIRE OMG
also hunger games series spoilers go away XD
I saw the movie with some people and when we talked about it afterwards I feel like we saw completely different movies and this was the one that I saw and I needed to vent. And I'm not trying to attack them, just iron out my opinion of the movie; they can think whatever they want, I just want to feel like I have that same privilege.
(I'm incorporating stuff about the book in here too)
Katniss's story gives her obstacles and such and OK FINE she doesn't make perfect decisions all the time and OK FINE she has so many weaknesses. But look at what's going on in her head, she doubts herself and thinks everyone else is better than she is and tries her hardest...and meanwhile everyone else walks all over her, "Katniss do you love me?? this is rlly important ok focus Katniss u need to decide if u love me how could you put me in a position like this." She thinks Peeta is a BETTER PERSON THAN SHE IS and VALUES HIS LIFE OVER HER OWN and BEATS HERSELF UP OVER WHAT HER INDIFFERENCE DOES TO HIM and meanwhile he hasn't caught on that if he likes someone and they don't like him back, he is not entitled to their undying love ANYWAY. Does Katniss kinda lead on Gale and Peeta at the same time? Yeah, and that's not nice okay I get it but LOOK at all the WEIRD PRESSURES she is under and *slaps both boys in the face repeatedly* let's also look at, she ALREADY TOLD THEM she doesn't LIKE THEM LIKE THAT and they are STILL BUGGING HER FOR ROMANCE and she has NO OTHER SUPPORT SYSTEM.
Katniss: Peeta, I don't love you and my favorite color is shut the f*ck up.... ok fine it's green but seriously, shut the f*ck up.
Peeta: Well that's not cool I mean you're going to love me eventually right? Do you love me now? I am not going to drop this ok.
Katniss: Hey Peeta I'm having nightmares, I'm a disgusting mess and my mind is literally unraveling, I am in, well, SOME kind of relationship with Gale IDK but he is not here right now and as far as I can tell I'm never going to see him again, could you maybe comfort me?
Viewers: THIS JUST IN, KATNISS IS LEADING PEETA ON, KATNISS WHY
This story is REALLY IMPORTANT ok because Katniss is just an outstanding amazing female protagonist, and her journey is a woman's journey, not a man's journey, and omg women think differently than men and society has different expectations for women than men and women face different challenges and if you didn't want to read a story about a chick who worries about what people think of her, and feels helpless, and would rather keep her family safe than overthrow the government and become Hokage, and cares cares CARES about people so much it's almost unhealthy, and uses wearing outfits and looking amazing to fight evil, go watch Star Wars again (and there's nothing WRONG with Star Wars, it's just, this ISN'T Star Wars, which is IMPORTANT). I'm a chick, and I relate to Katniss infinitely more than I relate to Luke Skywalker, ok.
I still need to read Mockingjay; I heard that Katniss ends up picking one of the leech boyfriend wannabes as her love interest; I can't say if this is an ok development if I haven't even read the book, maybe it will make sense or something, they're both decent people, but what I do know is that their behavior in books 1 and 2 is unacceptable no matter what happens in book 3. Re-imagine the story where like everything is the same except Katniss is a guy and Gale and Peeta are gay guys. Is THAT okay? Re-imagine Star Wars, and stick in Gay Gale and Gay Peeta following Luke Skywalker around getting outraged over his lack of interest in them, all he wants to do is go on an adventure and save the world for some reason. Is THAT okay?
What I love about the Hunger Games is that Katniss does NOT HAVE AN AGENDA, she just has love for people, that's it, that's what makes her tick, it's as simple as that... and somehow the entire world folds around her and makes her important and tries to figure her out and tries to use her but she just walks through everything like it's mist, absorbing nothing of their goals or ideologies or anything, only getting stronger and more and more angry and resolute through the scars it leaves her. Love is a beautiful and dangerous thing that cannot be controlled, and other characters stop believing in it, like Haymitch, but that's the one thing Katniss never lets go of, and sure she cries a lot and gets really emotional and makes illogical decisions and isn't the strongest person ever but none of that MATTERS, suddenly she's the Mockingjay and everyone wants her and doesn't know why. THAT'S LOVE FOR YA. Not like, romancey kissy kissy "love." The dangerous stuff that doesn't need any rewards and cannot be reasoned with and hunts for truth through a fog of lies. DAMN.
wow text wall okay
I haven't read or watched the Hunger Games things yet.. but this looks really nice. :'D
I really enjoy reading your character analyses, they're really thought provoking and satisfying. It's been a while since i've read the books, and i've yet to see the movies, but this was nice to read. Thanks !
Love the book series, and the movies are turning out to be really good too, thank goodness.
"Catching Fire" was INCREDIBLE! Both the book and the movie! I was amazed at how much justice the movie did the book and they did an incredible job.(I haven't read Mockingjay either). But Katniss is awesome!
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES that
Interesting revelation: Katniss has the biochemical capability (sexual orientation) to fall in love with men, but if she's not attracted to those two men in particular, it's not any cooler for them to chase after her as it is for them to chase after Luke Skywalker.
ok luke so darth vader is your father I guess that's pretty emotional and stuff for you and yeah yeah you have to do jedi training to save your friends but DO YOU LOVE ME and WHAT ARE YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT *death glare* PEETA??
I just watched it literally two hours ago and it was amazing. I appreciate your wall of text because I think fangirl wars over Team Peeta/Team Gale/Team Edward/Team Jacob/Team whatever the hell next is absolutely ridiculous. Sure the romance adds an element to the plot but Hunger Games isn't a romance story. Go read Nicholas Sparks if that's all you're looking for. Seriously. End rant. Katniss is awesome.
